Doppio Round Cutting Block

Bad news: this Doppio Round Cutting Block is not cheap. It would be so much better if it lost a zero in its price tag, as right now it’s about the price of a very decent armchair. Alas, we’ll settle for appreciating the double layer of marble- the dark side is Nero Marquina marble from Spain and the white is Carrara Marble from Italy- and imagining it upon our tabletops.

Hix Marble Serving Board

What the what?!? Can it be? A marble serving board hand-cut with beveled edges? Talk about impressing your guests, fine Agaria Marble in a gem-like shape will make anything you put on it look like a million bucks (probably). Appetizers, charcuterie, you name it, it’s going to look like it came from a chef’s kitchen on this kind of serving board.

Nut Hammer

It’s a Nut Hammer. It’s a pretty smart idea: a removable silicone ball holds the nut in place- just strike the hammer against a flat surface and the cast-iron head will take care of the rest. The silicone keeps flying shards at bay and minimizes the mess usually associated with cracking nuts. It’d be an excellent holiday gift.

Crest Bottle Openers

Hey, what should you get someone that’s fond of their bottled beverages? A special bottle opener, of course. This collection of solid brass openers by Fort Standard use a minimal amount of material to get the job done, and, since they’re too pretty to be tucked away in a drawer, there’s the option to leave them out on the table or on a wall hook for display.

Seletti Atomizers

Certain scents for the home and table are gaining popularity, and, as you might be aware, there’s all sorts of options to add and mix fragrances to enhance a dining (or shopping) experience. Now, you might not like the idea of adding scents to your already excellent culinary experience at home, but these Atomizers by Seletti are done beautifully in mouth blown glass, and could just as easily be admired as art forms as they are containers. As Seletti says, “the forms, unexpected on the table, outline a new gestural expressiveness towards food.” They could just as easily hold a favorite personal fragrance as well, which might be a more likely use for most of us.

Perimeter Tray

I know, a serving tray is not on the top of your list on this Monday morning after the holiday weekend. I wouldn’t care much either, except it’s the Perimeter Tray, and if you remember from our previous post last year, it normally retails for $195. And now MoMA Store has it on sale for $139.95 ($125.95 members). That’s a price that one could afford for a nice tray made of reclaimed walnut hardwood veneer, isn’t it?

Amuze Salad Set, Stripe

Yep, they’re salad servers. Not for the more traditional tabletop, of course, but for those of us that prefer the very modern take on just about everything, they tick the right box. There’s something a little science fiction about them, don’t you think? As if they’d look right at home in 2060, if robots haven’t taken over salad serving by then. There’s also a serving set ($33.90) to match, fyi.

Kebo Bottle Opener

If you’re opening a bottle, you should probably have both hands on board, but we’ll make one small exception for this bottle opener. Now your other hand can be free to wave at your friends, show off your other bicep, your amazing coordination skills (juggling?), or maybe even get two Kebo Bottle Openers so you’ll look like a cowboy bartender with his/her Six Shooters. That’s my vote. Rush Dixon, the designer, was inspired by the Theodore Low bottle opener from the 1930s.

Lazy Suzi 66

A while ago someone wrote in enquiring after modern Lazy Susans, and here we are, months after the initial request with a smacker of an option. Teak Cheeseboard

Here the holidays are, barreling down the road at us whether we like it or not. And I know what you’re thinking, where will you put your fancy cheeses? Actually, that’s probably at the bottom of your list, and understandably so, but don’t forget that presentation is almost as important as the food. A rectangular inlay of stainless steel on this Teak Cheeseboard provides a clean surface for your artisanal cheeses with a fair bit of room left for breads, crackers, and grapes.

Scoop, Stab, and Spread

What to get someone that enjoys preparing and serving food? This set of 6 ‘Scoop, Stab & Spread’ appetizer tools might fit the bill with their specific functions. The Scoop has an integrated draining slot, the Stab includes a double-pronged fork and a single pronged spear (to skewer delicate meats, of course), and the Spread has an angled and straight spreader (a good fit for soft or hard cheeses).

Bottle Opener

Bottle openers should be sturdy things, and with this stainless steel option you’ll have no worries about it opening up thousands of bottles in its lifetime. The ‘thousands’ value is intended to encompass the drinks of the many guests of parties and informal get-togethers you’ll have, not the amount you’ll imbibe on your sofa.
