Bed Linens

Dymaxion Quilt

Remember the Dymaxion Folding Globe? Well, you can now get a quilt version to keep you and your loved ones warm this winter. Sourced from the Fuller Projection Dymaxion Map, the Dymaxion Quilt highlights Buckminster Fuller’s vision of our planet as one island in one ocean.

HAY Quilts

More minimal/modern quits, and this time they’re from Tanja Vibe and Petra Olsson, the Danish-Swedish team known as All The Way To Paris. The quilts are cotton with polyester filling, and each one has graphic stripe patterns in softer primary colors. And, good news, they’re sized to fit a queen bed, so they can be your main coverlet/blanket for your bedroom, and not just a small throw size that you keep wishing was just a tiny bit bigger.

Dusen Dusen Sheet Sets

What might you pair with your new Hay Polygon Quilt? How about Dusen Dusen’s Alphabet or Objects Sheet Set? Yes, that makes for a lot of shapes and pattern, but that’s what makes a bed fun… riight? I’m pretty crazy about all the accompanying throw pillows but they’re all sold out (sad face). The throws are so good they’ll need their own post, so stay tuned.

Hay Polygon Quilt

A reversible, two-tone polygon quilt? Yes and yes. I personally own the Mega Dot Quilt from Hay, and it’s the perfect weight for summer use. Now that they’ve added polygons to the mix, it’s certainly tempting… you can never have too many quilts, right? Blue, Charcoal, and Olive available from MoMA Store; Powder, Mint Green and Black available from Danish Design Store; all colors available from The Modern Shop ($CAD).

King/Queen Linen Duvet Set

Hmm, a good quality linen duvet set for $129 sounds extremely unlikely, but maybe that’s because we’re used to other brands (like Matteo) having price tags twice as much*. Is price a true indicator of quality? Or should we take a chance on one heck of a deal? This is exactly the kind of product that needs customer reviews, so that those of us biting our fingernails wondering about the quality will know what to expect**.

Lindsay Stead Collection Quilts

Modern interpretations of traditional quilt patterns are just one of those things that hit the perfect note between old and new, though sometimes the colors are a little too bright or the design just a tad too busy. You’ll be happy to know the Collection Quilts by Lindsay Stead are quietly modern and refrain from any garish colors or designs. Each quilt is of heirloom quality, as they are hand quilted by a group of women in rural Ontario. Pick your favorite design knowing it’ll keep you warm on chilly nights while adding a good dose of handmade charm to your home.

Feather Pillowcases by Kiki Smith

Maybe you can’t afford an original piece of art by Kiki Smith, but you can probably set aside $80 for pillowcases… if you really, really like Smith’s work, that is (it’s not for everyone*). The pillowcases are standard-sized, and features her drawings of screen-printed feathers and embroidered stars.

1100 Carded Wool Blanket by Roberta Licini

It’s still cold outside, so here’s a very fashionable 100% carded wool blanket to keep you warm. Fair warning, though, it’s not cheap, partly because it looks like it should be hanging on the wall as an abstract art piece instead of on your bed as a blanket. You could probably even get away with wearing it out in public as a sort of sweater coat/wrap (if you’re brave), especially as it’s from fashion knitwear designer Roberta Licini.

Sailor’s Knot Handmade Quilt

A new Meg Callahan quilt is just what you need, considering the cold air that’s bound to make itself at home for another few months. And, unlike the smaller throw sizes available from Matter, this quilt is sized for a queen bed or as a top layer for a king. This design is a collaboration between Meg Callahan and Hawkins New York and features hand stitching with a screen-printed graphic.

One of a Kind Quilt by Piet Hein Eek

Recycled quilts are great, but recycled quilts from Piet Hein Eek and Borre Akkersdijk are even better. They’re made of unused silk necktie fabrics, and were inspired by a visit to a former ties factory in Milan called the Spazio Rosanna Orlandi. All those silky fabrics with interesting patterns being reused to keep us warm? Yes, please. Smart, and sort of not surprising, considering Piet Hein Eek’s work in recycled wood. Each one is unique, so be prepared for a different version than the quilts pictured.

Coastal Quilts by Haptic Lab

If you’re fond of one of the several coastal areas in the United States, you’ll want to take a look at Haptic Lab’s new Coastal Quilts. Gold polysilk is appliquéd onto a pale blue soft cotton, representing the familiar places near the sea. Puget Sound, Penobscot Bay, Nantucket, Martha’s Vineyard, and Cape Cod are available now, with more following throughout the next several weeks and months.

Hopewell Quilts + Pillows

This isn’t the first time we’ve featured Hopewell’s quilts and it certainly won’t be the last. Have you taken a look at their recent collection? There’s quite a few modern pillows and quilts, so if your bed, sofa, or wall needs a little kick in the pants in terms of color, you’d best take a look and see if something catches your fancy.

Tokyo 2 and New York 1 Bitmap Blanket

Gah! I know that Cristian Zuzunaga’s Digital Sunrise Blanket might have been a little too much color and pattern, but don’t let that dissuade you from considering some of the other knitted blankets in the collection. Tokyo 2 Bitmap Blanket is the one above, and New York 1 Bitmap Blanket the one below. Both are a little less crazy with their limited color palette, yet they’ll still prove that you can be brave when it comes to textiles. Perhaps one might fit the bill for a lightweight summer blanket for your bed? You may also purchase these blankets (amongst other items) directly from Zuzunaga’s Design Studio (€240 ex.VAT), but be advised you’ll need to pay for shipping/customs.

Digital Sunrise Blanket

More pixilated textiles, though this time it’s turned all the way up to an almost obnoxious color play of red, yellow, blue, green and black. Spanish artist and designer Cristian Zuzunaga is the man behind this silk and superfine merino wool blanket, and, if you’re a fan of vivid colors and strong patterns, you’ll want to take a look at the other items in his Bitmap collection, for there’s a fair share of clothes and other textiles sure to infuse your wardrobe and home with one heck of patterned punch.

Cross Blanket

Polar vortex, pshaw! No cold will bother you when you’ve got this Cross Blanket from Pia Wallén wrapped around you. Especially because in Swedish folk art tradition, the cross is a strong symbol for hope, so you’ll be doubly optimistic whenever you wrap it around yourself (note: the smaller size could be appropriate for a little one’s crib/bed). Or, if you really want to spend some dough and have the larger, wool version, the original Crux Blanket is available as well.
