Surely you’ve heard of Scrapile furniture before? If so, you earn points. If not, well, you better read up, ’cause they’ve got a really great line of furniture made from wood scraps.
They earn a bajillion points for recycling tons of wood that would go into landfills and creating really great pieces that I certainly would be proud to use and display in my home. These cubes are within a somewhat modest budget, and they offer such versitility with stacking options or as a side table, etc. Each piece is made using non-toxic water-soluble glue and hand finished with Danish Oil which creates a water-resistant finish. Since they’re handcrafted, each one will be unique.

This sofa is intended for children, but I think it would do quite well as a chair. Two or three would work well together for some low seating and wouldn’t break the bank.

I really like these Mummy chairs. Wrapped in polyester ribbon, these bent beech-wood chairs add humor and maybe even sort of a high art feel, if you could call it that. (If anyone chooses to recreate, I’d love to see pictures.) Seat and backrest are padded with polyurethane foam.

Recliners are usually a dirty word with aesthetically-conscious individuals, and I am one to raise my hand and admit to being frightened when someone mentions the word. Yet, there are decent modern-ish reliners out there, and we’ll find at least one or two for all of you that have lost hope. Here’s one: the Tracy has clean lines and a very nice silhouette (trust me, go look), not to mention a very comfortable two postition recliner mechanism. Lots of other good stuff too: kiln-dried hardwood frame, top grain, semi aniline leather (that just means it’s top quality and will last a whole lot longer than something cheap). So compromise is possible- your significant other (or yourself) can finally rest in peace without sacrificing style.

This is a spectacular piece. I saw one at Issey Miyake in Tokyo and it had a sign in it that said “no sitting”, so I can’t report on the comfort level. For me I believe the main comfort issue would be the knowledge that I’m sitting in a glass chair. Obviously it’s more of an “impact piece” than something you’ll want to lounge around in, but it really is breathtaking in person.

Joe Columbo, (of insane 80’s furniture fame) has created an amazingly subtle (for him) rolling rack perfect for all your office needs. I have two desks in my office and it would be perfect for shuttling all my at-hand accessories between the two.
