Several years ago when we posted this stool, 2007 to be exact, it was simply known as the ‘Covey Stool’ from the designer Jeff Covey. Now its name is the Model Six, and it’s on sale from MoMA Store for $349.95. Chrome-plated steel legs snap together and the walnut seat can be adjusted from 24″-28″ height, making this strong stool an excellent flat-packed option for your bar or counter area.

This small V.Stand is not for your backside, but for any little thing weighing up to 20 pounds. That shouldn’t be a surprise once you find out that it’s made from lightweight corrugated plastic and weighs less than a pound. Maybe set a drink upon its surface, or a small stack of books… or a cat? You name it, as long as it’s not too terribly heavy, this stand will keep it off the floor and within reaching distance of your favorite chair/bed/beanbag/chaise lounge. Now, here’s an interesting take on a shelving kit. Notice how the legs thicken towards the bottom? That enables “precisely machined plastic collars” on each of the five shelves to fit at certain spots, thus creating shelving space. Those legs are produced in collaborations with RJH Custom Pool Cues, as those of you who play pool might have noticed. No other hardware is needed, just slide the shelves over the four legs.

What’s the deal with this jumble of junctions and thumb screws? It’s the Alex Building System, and you’re going to have a lot of fun if you like putting things together with your own two hands, no tools needed. Various junctions can be tightened with the thumb screws onto wood sections to create anything your brain can dream up; coffee tables, consoles, side tables, shelving systems, etc. And, man, talk about the clean design- can you believe those joints look as nice as they do? It won’t be cheap no matter what size item you plan to build, but the possibilities are endless, so you may alter it as your needs change, and that makes the system worth every penny.

Don’t be put off by the ‘Fungi’ word in the title of these Gridy Fungi Shelves, it serves merely as a reminder that they were inspired by the shelf fungus that grows horizontally out of trees in the woods and forests. Three different sizes will fit wherever you might need them. Think of a few in the hallway for display of certain special keepsakes, a couple in the kitchen for spices and small recipe books, or just one in the bedroom for your reading stack beside the bed.

Maybe you’re semi-impressed with these marble tables by NYC designer Joe Doucet, but you’ll be all-the-way impressed once you see how they fit together. Made from slabs of hand-honed marble, the tops and legs are held together only by gravity. Take a look at the flat, disassembled views to see the design clearly. Each table is a signed and numbered edition commissioned by the Shop at The Cooper-Hewitt National Design Museum.

While this isn’t new (we originally featured it in 2010), it’s still a pretty smart option if you’re leashed to your laptop. The Lap Tilt transforms from an occasional table into a small laptop desk with a simple tilt of the base. If you use your laptop in your living area for work- or, more specifically, whilst lounging on our sofas updating/perusing social networking sites- then this table would come in handy on many occasions. When not in use, the table automatically reverts back to an upright position.

I do hope you had a nice holiday weekend. Did you make it outside to enjoy the weather in the park or your backyard? If you’re nodding your head to the backyard bit of the last question, here’s another one for you: are you lucky enough to have a little patio area where a hanging swing might fit? I haven’t seen many options for a simple, metal swing until happening upon this IDV Cruiser Swinging Love Seat. And, it appears to be a good option for an outdoor swing as it’s made with a powder-coated aluminum frame, seat, and back. The double braided 3/8″ nylon rope is in keeping with the modern vibe and adds a small jolt of contrast to the pacific, marigold, mint or fog color options.

When searching for outdoor seating options, don’t forget about the deck chairs from Artware Editions. They’d be easy to move from the car to sun to shade while at the beach, and you’ll get some curious looks when people spot the unusual artwork upon the digitally-printed, sailcloth sling. There are beach/bath towels by some well known artists as well, so there’s no need to hold back on displaying your art appreciation. Note: Artist-designed deck chairs could be considered a little ostentatious, so be sure not to be too much of a you-know-what when someone asks about them.
