Barstools

Perch Barstool

Hmm, I don’t quite understand how the same barstool could cost roughly $150 more on one site than the other. Do you? One site has it on sale, so that explains a little discrepancy, but perhaps it’s not exactly the same barstool, or by the same designer/manufacturer, or maybe someone is smoking something somewhere and the profit margins were messed up. Either way, this teak and iron base barstool has that spindly-yet-sturdy look and would provide extra seating without taking up too much visual space.

Howard Stool

Guess what my favorite barstool is lately? Yep, it’s this guy, mostly because it takes up a minimal amount of visual space and still has a fair bit of personality. “The Howard” is an all-weather, stackable barstool available in 3 heights and 9 different colors. It looks super sharp, as you can see, but you’ll also be glad to hear that its ergonomic shape will help your posture as well. Too good to be true? Not if your budget fits the price tag.

Hee Chair & Barstool

It’s been nine years since the Hee Seating Collection first hit the market, but it looks just as good now as it did back in 2004. Designer Hee Welling was originally inspired by the interior of a refrigerator, but you won’t find that on Hay’s site anymore, as the many other attributes of the seating collection have the spotlight. The chairs are made from galvanized solid steel, with outdoor powder coating that withstands weather throughout the year. They’re stackable, with a floor linking connection, and even cushions, if needed (contact HAY for availability). All that with the simple, perfect design and you’ve got yourself an excellent option for seating wherever you might need it.

Capellini Alodia Counter Stool

Finding the right bar/counter stool is no easy task, yet I’d be willing to take on the challenge knowing this guy is an option. It’s minimal in design, stackable (a definite plus) and looks oh-so-cool with metal tube and steel sheet materials. If you’re looking for something taller than 27.5″ high, no worries, as it’s also available in a 31.5″h bar height ($494.00).

You can stop shopping for barstools now, because the Hot Mesh Chair has siblings. Air Stools

The Air Stool was meant to be visually light and understated, and it succeeds at both points thanks to the designer’s skill, of course, and rotation-molded polyethylene, a strong and lightweight material. And yes, it’s plastic, so it can be used indoors or out. Available in four earth-toned colors and two (16″ or 30″) heights.

Pilot Stool

Quinze & Milan’s Pilot Stool is notable not only for its curved (and seemingly comfortable) seat, but also for its new method of fabrication. Polypropylene foam is utilized in a special manufacturing technique (see below video) to create a glossy-yet-matte surface. The oak legs thread onto the seat, making the stool easy to ship and assemble. Available in three different height variations: standard, kitchen, and bar.

Poet Stool

This Poet Stool by Misewell might be a tad expensive, but goodness, once you take a look at the construction, you begin to understand why. The three legs are connected to the seat by mortise and tenon joints, which, if you’re not aware, is both a simple and strong joint that needs to be cut exactly to specification. Steel connects each leg, further strengthening the structure and providing a perfect ledge to rest your feet. Handmade and assembled in Milwaukee.

Matégot Nagasaki Stool

$450 for a barstool might just be a little above your budget, but, even so, let’s just spend a moment admiring this barstool designed by Mathieu Matégot . Who’s he? Apparently, he’s the guy that first combined metal tubing with with perforated sheet metal. Thank you Mr. Matégot.

Rian RTA Barstool from Semigood Design

These stools by Semigood Design are fantastic. Each piece is designed and handmade to order in their Seattle workshop (hence the lead time of 2-4 weeks) and all wood used is FSC-certified. While it is a ‘ready–to–assemble’ product, it should take you no longer than 5 minutes to have it ready for use. Stock colors are Red/Orange, Smoke, White, or Blue.

Life After Corkage Bar Stool + Ottoman

Hmm. What to do with 2,500 wine and champagne corks? Make an ottoman and barstool out of them and then sell it/them for $980 (I think they’re sold as a set, but I’ve got an email out to double check). Now, who has enough corks lying around to try a DIY version of this?

Whoa, update: it’s $980 each, not sold as set.

Sean Dix Factory Stool

I’d say this is a pretty good price for a modern stool, no? At 27″ high, it’s the right height for a high-ish counter or bar area and powder-coated steel means it can take a beating.

BCN Barstool

How often do you think of barstools as comfortable? Designers Harry & Camilla chose an industrial plastic to form a curved seat that has flex and give, and although I’m not sure how much ‘spring’ there is, it’s sure looks more comfortable than other barstools.
