I like insanely modern furniture. The kind that makes your head spin around and wonder what century you live in. But sometimes, just sometimes, I like to cleanse my palate with some good old fashioned furniture that looks like it could have been made in the 16th century in Asia. This Shinto bench is one such piece: Its sophisticated and subtle styling blends into a modern decor since it’s handmade by master woodworkers in China. What’s more, it’s harvested responsibly from Chinese forests.

For outdoors or in, this bench and stool are something to consider. The prices aren’t so bad, and the style fits into the modern/minimal look quite easily…you could also use them as a coffee/side table if you wanted to…

This bench would be great as a impromptu coffee table or a little seat when necessary. It would work well in an office or library too.

Another great creation from Scrapile, the Brookly duo who reclaim woodscraps and turn them into furniture masterpieces. I’m considering making my house a “no shoe” house because I’d like to invest in a few nice wool rugs. This bench would go really well in a front entry and would accomodate several pairs of guests shoes on the bottom shelf.

Okay, what you see here (from left to right) is the Sande Wave Table, the Sande Side Table, and the Sande Mag Bench. Designed and manufactured by David Brunicardi, each piece is made of repeat laminated, eco-friendly plywood from Ecuador. They’re all quite nice- also keep in mind they are hand made, so that’s why there are some zeros on the price tag.
