Look! It’s a poem about a chair:

Could a chair be as streamlined as the body of an aeroplane? A body that looks rounded, similar to a boulder being eroded for a long time in the sea before it reaches its ultimate shape. The base strengthens the lightness of the design by its shape. The knot is an aesthetical feature but also a technical detail. On the one side a point where all the curved lines meet and on the other side a place where the fabric can be held together.

This actually looks quite comfortable despite the delicate appearance.

These transparent models are hand woven with golden sika (lighter version) or rattan splits (darker version). The foundation is composed of powder coated iron round bars and the cushions are filled with 3 inch thick FRD foam. The cushions are removable and an outdoor version of the lounger and chair are available.

Man, at first glance it looked like it was $150 per chair (which would be way too good to be true); it takes around 5 slices to make a full-sized seat, so that makes it around $750 per chair. Darn it.

Truly one of the more elegant and interesting rocking chairs, this design by Ilmari Tapiovaara is a testament to how traditional furniture can be updated and improved upon.

Tapiovaara designed the Mademoiselle in 1956 as a comfortable refinement of the traditional chairs found in many Scandinavian homes at that time. The Rocker’s spindles and plank seat echo early American Windsor chairs, and even Shaker chairs, but with a unique sculptural form. Rather than using four stretchers to support the legs, Tapiovaara designed a different solution: When the Rocker is seen from the side, a composition of triangles appears that’s both functional and aesthetically unique. Tapiovaara gave the chair an extra-deep rock by extending the back rails.

Simple little lounge chair–I like how easily two of them and a table make a perfect little seating area.

This distinctive chair has interesting beginnings…

designed by blasius osko and oliver deichman for moooi, the clip chair has a solid beech frame and folds flat. according to the designers: “Whilst strolling around a Bulgarian market, a small, foldable basket caught our attention. Single slats were beaded on ropes to form 2 hinged surfaces, which could be transformed into a curved 3 dimensional object. We improved this stunning mechanism, both technically and visually, to create a foldable lounge chair – the ‘Clip Chair’. When open, it’s straight identical slats form a spacious seating space of supreme comfort. This is a stunning piece designed by tom dixon for cappellini in 1991. As a bonus, you can buy extra covers too.

Bird is an aptly named rocking chaise – looking somewhat like a bird with its tail in the air – that allows the sitter to balance on their center of gravity or simply rock back and forth. Very comfortable and a great conversation piece, the bird has an upholstered wooden structure with a removable external cover available in a choice of fabrics or leathers. Extremely popular with children it seems- they love to sit on it in the store.
