Verner Panton created many innovative furniture pieces in the sixties and seventies, and the Living Tower is the most innovative of them all. A forerunner of the “micro-environments” trend which encouraged social interraction, the Living Tower was constructed of a wood frame upholstered with wool over foam padding.

I swoon. Made of 100% pure cork, which is reclaimed waste material from the bottle stopper industry, this little stool is something to take a look at.
“The central column of the stool, located directly under the spine of the user, is flexible, solid cork while the rest is perforated. The result is a seat that flexes and pivots under the weight of the user, responding to the slightest body movement. The userโs muscles remain slightly engaged to maintain balance, improving posture and circulation. Many have reported this to be a perfect seat for working at a desk or computer, enabling the user to move and rock while working and thinking. Because cork is 100% waterproof and impervious to rot and mold growth, this piece functions as well outdoors as it does in. Perfect for a bit of meditation in the gardenโฆ”

I’m not sure how durable this thing is but it’s nice enough for the price.
“Cushions are constructed of a polyether foam and the suspension consists of a “no-sag” spring supported by rubber webbing. The Montana collection is covered in a rich “chocolate” fabric made of 100% polyester, and chrome feet add the perfect finishing touch. Chair and ottoman also available.”

These chairs are great. They stand alone or several can be joined to make a modular sofa.

It’s a short Rosewood Bench. It’s simple, has a lovely wood grain, and hopefully won’t break anybody’s bank.

Recliners are usually a dirty word with aesthetically-conscious individuals, and I am one to raise my hand and admit to being frightened when someone mentions the word. Yet, there are decent modern-ish reliners out there, and we’ll find at least one or two for all of you that have lost hope. Here’s one: the Tracy has clean lines and a very nice silhouette (trust me, go look), not to mention a very comfortable two postition recliner mechanism. Lots of other good stuff too: kiln-dried hardwood frame, top grain, semi aniline leather (that just means it’s top quality and will last a whole lot longer than something cheap). So compromise is possible- your significant other (or yourself) can finally rest in peace without sacrificing style.

I think this chair would make a great chair for reading. The back is tilted just enough to get comfortable but not so much that you’ll fall asleep.

Tubular steel frame, upholstery.

I really like these Mummy chairs. Wrapped in polyester ribbon, these bent beech-wood chairs add humor and maybe even sort of a high art feel, if you could call it that. (If anyone chooses to recreate, I’d love to see pictures.) Seat and backrest are padded with polyurethane foam.
Designed by Peter Traag.
Available in black or red.

This sofa is intended for children, but I think it would do quite well as a chair. Two or three would work well together for some low seating and wouldn’t break the bank.

This is a spectacular piece. I saw one at Issey Miyake in Tokyo and it had a sign in it that said “no sitting”, so I can’t report on the comfort level. For me I believe the main comfort issue would be the knowledge that I’m sitting in a glass chair. Obviously it’s more of an “impact piece” than something you’ll want to lounge around in, but it really is breathtaking in person.

Worth noting is this little acrylic stool/magazine rack by none other than Karim Rashid. It can hold up to 200 pounds! That’s something. It’ll hold your magazines or other riffraff while still kind of blending into it’s environment. Better still, it’s under $300.00.
