Here’s a pretty nice sofa that won’t break the bank.
“Lustrous black and cream tweed, pristine lines and buttoned-back detailing all contribute to the mid-century mystique of this modern beauty and communicate “grown up” in a very hip way. That’s why you’ll find it as at home in a spacious condo or loft as in a vintage ranch or salon. High density foam on hardwood frame. Upholstery and bolsters, included, in polyester/viscose. Contemporary stainless steel legs.”

This would certainly not be an impulse buy for most of us, but if you happen to have it in your budget and decorating needs, the saruyama sofa set may just be what you’re looking for. The set of three sofas was designed by Toshiyuki Kita for Moroso in 1989. Each sofa has it’s own unique style and design, and all three fit together to make a circular seating arrangement.
Made of a self-supporting frame in stress-resistant polyurethane foam at varied densities.

“An ultra cool design approach delivers luxurious comfort in a handsome modern sectional. The polyester bouclé upholstery has a soft pebbled texture. The pillowtop cushions and the sleek, low seat deck make for an inviting place to relax after your busy day. Sectional styling means it’s versatile enough for a small space or able to be expanded considerably. Add and subtract pieces to adapt to your modern lifestyle and the shape of your room. The bottom cushion/pillowtop fastens with Velcro, which keeps it in place and and makes it easy to remove for cleaning. A strong and beautiful stainless steel base provides a solid foundation for this elegant modern furniture. Includes five matching pillows.”

Here’s a contemporary sofa that won’t break the bank. I like the super low arms.
“…a low, floating silhouette anchored by overscaled track arms and balanced on a minimal, gleaming stainless base.”

Well known fashion photographer Fabien Baron has ventured into the realm of interior design with his sofa series for Cappellini with the same aplomb and sense of style with which he approaches all his work.
“consisting of an armchair and a series of sofas, benches, poufs and cushions, the extra sofa series maintains baron’s simple, yet stylish block design. these solid seating components are constructed of a satined stainless steel base with white nylon feet supporting a sturdy plywood and solid poplar frame with horse hair, coconut fiber, cotton wool and polyurethane foam padded upholstery and a fixed external cover available in a choice of colorful cappellini fabrics or leathers. a rectangular and a square cushion are also available.”

This is the perfect sectional- very clean lines and an unscary price tag (considering all modern sectionals seem to be about $2000 more than a regular person can afford). Pillows are sold separately, so if you’re not so fond of stripes, don’t worry.
“Clean uni-height backs/arms angle deep to comfort. Overscale pieces work small spaces solo, or lofts in combination…Classic textured cotton in go-with-everything putty, double-needle stitched at the seams. Barely there T-legs in solid aluminum.”
• Kiln-dried hardwood frame benchmade in USA
• Sinuous wire spring suspension; foam cushioning
• 100% cotton fabric: putty
• Solid aluminum legs

Obviously this is more suitable for a commercial space versus a small residential one, but it’s a pretty cool sofa if you have the need for a huge lounging piece and happen to have $6000 to spare.
Backrests release for repositioning.

“The frame is made by hand and draws on techniques Bendtsen learned from
his father, who also designed and built furniture. The foam seat
cushions he uses are sourced from Italy because he hasn’t found any
others that offer his ideal mix of firm support and comfort. And the
removable cushion covers, while not a flashy feature, are all about
maximizing Neo’s functionality as an easy-to-live-with and
easy-to-clean seating collection.”

…the Parcel Collection (2006) expresses the designers’ belief that our furniture should reflect a state of casualness, relaxation and rejuvenation…Bernett and Dodziuk designed the Parcel Sofa to be roomy enough to stretch out on, with deep seats that encourage nesting, even for the tallest user. This is an unbelievable price for such a well constructed and designed sofa. Blu Dot are kind of the new kids to the game, so they are eschewing a lot of the conventional design beliefs, such as a well made sofa needs to cost a fortune.
