Ran across this cast concrete stool/side table while on Svpply yesterday. Considering the design and actual heft, I’d say $375 isn’t too bad of a deal. In fact, if I saw this in a high-design storefront, I would probably guess a much higher price tag. It can go outside in a patio or garden or be just at home next to a sofa. Another Country has a lovely collection of handcrafted wood furniture. What you see is exactly what you get; there’s honest construction along with a pared back traditional style that’s refreshing to see. Each piece is produced by hand in a small workshop in Dorset, England.

A polypropylene stool might not seem like a deal of the day, but this guy has got a lot going for it. It can be used indoors or out and can be stacked to save space. If you flip it upside down, it doubles as a storage bin for newspapers/magazines or kid’s toys, or even a cooler for beer or soda when filled with ice. Or you can choose to use it as a side table. Not too shabby for a cheerful little seating option.

The Briq Stool won the prestigious FORM Design Award in 2009.

Any guesses as to what exactly this is? Sure, it’s a sort of seating/table thing, but it also has an element of fun that’s not immediately apparent. It’s a reinterpretation of the rocking horse, made up modern and sleek. The engraved star pattern are actually machining lines which are left as a decorative element.

There’s also a version for kids, in either wood ($870.00) or resin ($125.00).

Originally commissioned for the Design Museum Tank, Gitta Gschwendtner created the Bag Stool as a comment on material consumption. There’s an outdoor concrete version (143 lbs.) that comes with a fixation system and an indoor version made from a concrete and wood fiber mixture (66lbs.).

These certainly aren’t new, but they are definitely worth a nod. Pantone has licensed a ton of great products in the past few years, making all of us color nuts quite happy to pick our favorite shade of mug, bag, etc. This stool would be perfect for a little jolt of color in seating options.

Big Game is one to watch out for these days; they’ve got a great collection of home furnishings that’s both interesting and edgy (and not too terribly expensive). This stool is pretty simple, yet intriguing in that it borrows pleating techniques from the cardboard industry to make a foldable aluminum seat. Light and versatile, the Box stool has one hole in the center of the seat to make it easy to move around.

Yep, the butt stool. Designed by Established & Sons, it’s stackable and plastic (outdoor/storage points) plus it’s got an ergonomic top that you’ll recognize from tractor seats. Three holes drilled in the top make it easy to lift and move.

Obviously the name denotes the design, but what strikes me most about this stool is not only the shape of one on its own, but the shape when stacked several high. It almost looks like an extremely robust coat hanger or totem-like sculpture.
