I’m guessing most of us don’t have this kind of cash lying around just waiting to be spent on a bookcase, but it sure is impressive.
“Behind the Tier Shelving’s simple silhouette lies a complicated fabrication technique resulting in no visible hardware. As well as appearing to be free floating, this wall mounted shelving system is available in two different shelf depths, 12″ or 16″. An optional 24″ deep desk surface is also available. Shelf widths are available in 4′ or 8′ lengths. In addition, you may choose an overall unit height of 6′ or 8′. To customize your unit further, you may choose from two different dimensions between your shelves, 12.75″ or 17.25″.”
Aluminum tiers support walnut or oak veneered shelves. Aluminum available in multiple finishes; anodized natural or powder coated white, orange gray, and red.

These shelves are great for any application, such as in a study, office or living room. What’s great about them is that they rely on gravity for strength, so each shelf has a weight load of 110 lb for each shelf without putting any real stress on the wall.

These hand made white oak or black walnut wall storage boxes can be customized to customers specifications.
They are made with traditional construction techniques with mitered joints.
“The Plateau Boxes are designed to frame objects in a natural, unobtrusive environment. Because they are blindly fastened to the wall, the boxes —and the objects they hold— exhibit a unique lightness of form. Each box is independent unto itself, so users can apply their creativity to configure the boxes on a wall.
Available in black walnut or riftsawn white oak, with sliding door and shelf options. Custom size and proportions available upon request, please call for details.”

I’m sort of flabbergasted by how awesome these are. Not only are they cool to look at, but they are made from 100% recyclable polypropylene, and can be used both indoors and out, even in wet environments. Available in both black and white.

So clever, and definitely a piece that people will ask about…it would be interesting to see if others are inspired to find their own coffee tables and turn them into book racks.
“matt carr found inspiration when he found two vintage coffee tables. creating a bookrack for his own home, he configured them ingeniously to give these tables a new life as bookshelves. this design is now re-created with a mahogany natural top and black lacquered legs.”

So, yes, yes, we’ve seen this before, but they’re on sale so I’m reposting. And maybe it’s the compulsive mover in me that finds these shelves so irresistible (they’re incredibly light). Is it that they arose out of humanitarian work? Or maybe that it’s almost 50% off?
Also available: small desk for $678 $409
big desk for $878 $549

You too can look like a crazy genius.
“Noisy Furniture is a modular furniture system. Each element attaches to the next via a Dual Lock re-closable fastener. This allows one to create endless constructions ranging from a straight and sober aesthetic to something wild and unexpected.”

It’s so nice to know there is modular furniture out there that can grow and change according to your needs. This system can be changed depending on how high or tall or wide you’d like it, simply by adding or taking away an individual unit. The photo shown here is one unit with a steel base (the doors are sold separately), but you could afford to buy this now as a tv stand (for example) and then add on later to make a bookcase. The back is completely finished as well, so you could also use it as a room divider if you went with buying a taller unit.
“The Sapporo Shelving System by Jesús Gasca combines the elegant minimalism of Japanese design with SpainÂ’s technically refined modernism to produce a system of case goods that meets a multiplicity of needs in a gracious and flexible format…”

Even if you don’t have the urge to snap this up and put it on display in your living room, surely you can find appreciation for the delightful design somewhere in your heart/head.
“Every book tells its own story. Every book has its own weight. By playing with balance, the See-Saw bookshelf visualizes the breadth of our home libraries.”

I posted this over a year ago, but I just found it from a US retailer so I thought it was worthy of a repost.
“With its ability to rotate every shelf to a new or different position, joy has a versatility that can be claimed by very few shelving units.
The upright and shelves are constructed of a honeycomb core with steel reinforcing inside and finished in a choice of bleached oak or wengé-stained oak or can be constructed of a medium density fiberboard with internal steel corner reinforcing and finished in scratch resistant embossing in a choice of various colors. the steel supporting joints are painted in a choice of black aluminum or graphite color.”
