BeeBoard was developed as an ecologically low-impact solution as a way to quickly build mobile housing. As shelving it’s incredibly sturdy and light.
Now on sale.

I posted this back in 2005 but I just found it available for purchase so I thought it was worthy of a post again.
The brains at ding3000 created this “Billy Wilder” shelf intended for making Ikea’s ubiquitous “Billy” shelving unit “wilder”. You can view their portfolio here.

This is labeled as children’s furniture, yet looks to be suitable in most rooms with storage needs. Storage pieces can be somewhat difficult to choose, and often quite more expensive than most of us are able to budget for, so finding something that is environmentally conscious and under the grand mark is worth considering. Take note of the dimensions, though, since it is made on a smaller scale…
“The Argington line of children’s furniture unites contemporary aesthetics with a healthy, non-toxic and environmentally conscious outlook. The Eiffel Book Case is made of highly durable Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) certified sustainable birch wood with a 100% non-toxic, water-based finish. The Eiffel Book Case has interchangeable doors and cases, and features loads of storage space, including an open center for books and other play objects accessible to children.”
60″ wide x 38″ tall x 12.5″ deep
Available in four colors: white, birch, walnut, and red maple
Door colors and cases are interchangeable

A lot of style for a small price…
“The Stellar table collection offers a classic, modern look at a terrific price. Constructed from solid birch with an ash veneer, this bookcase comes KD (that’s furniture talk for knocked down…unassembled), so it is easy for you to transport home in a box.”

Hmm, what’s that? Storage on a shoestring budget? Well, you could go the cement block route, as there’s invariably that time in one’s life, or you could spring for this particular shelving system. It looks pretty nice for the price, and you’d be able to buy a bunch without hurting your wallet (or maybe it would hurt a little, but not a whole lot).
“Each kit contains 18 panels to create six attached cubes. Two cubes can be doubled in depth, using the remaining parts to accommodate larger items. The cubes can be attached vertically or horizontally with the included plastic hardware, and easily anchor to the wall with common fasteners (not included) for configurations that exceed heights of three cubes. Made of hollow injection-molded polypropylene, a corrugated core allows the shelving components to be superbly strong and lightweight. Each shelf is able to hold 55 lbs. The Cubitec shelves to be equally at home in playful or sophisticated environments, and even includes a clear option for subdued retail or gallery display.”
Available in Blue, Orange, Red, or Transparent White

It seems to me that we would’ve posted this before, though I can’t seem to find any record of it. And if we have, I think it’s well worth another entry. It’s such a great design and so terribly great-looking as to inspire need (as in, I need that piece of furniture). And, of course, it’s by Ronan & Erwan Bouroullec for Cappellini (2004).
“the cloud shelving system…has garnered much attention due to its original form and its use of innovative materials. cloud allows for the repetition of elements which can be stacked and aligned to create large bookshelves or room dividers. in theory, there is no limit to the size of a structure other than the size of the space containing it. cloud is made of a high-density polystyrene and is available in 4 colors: white, light green, dark green or red.”
units sold separately.

This piece would be perfect as a floating divider or along a wall in multiples. But, hey, if you just want one against a wall to show off your stuff, then that would be good too. There’s also a shorter version with four openings/cubicles.
Cold rolled steel
Hand-applied patina adds depth and texture
Graphite lacquer finish
3″ recessed top

A few different retailers have their version of this, but this is the cheapest one I’ve found. If you’re interested in the uber sturdy version I recommend the Sapien Bookcase from DWR for $198.

Modular shelf systems are one of the best things because they can adapt to various spaces and are easy to move around. This particular system is built using the basic “H” module, which you can stack in whatever way you need.
