Check out this odd trapezoidal wall storage ‘catcher’. I’m not quite sure how it attaches to the wall or how much weight it holds, so you might ask before you buy, but it’s definitely an interesting storage option. It sort of reminds me of the Barnacles by Plodes Studio (in that it shares an organic faceted shape and functions as wall storage).

The Catcher is a practical wall covering. It consists out of as many elements as you like. The elements can be folded together to form one object. The Photos show a Catcher consisting out of eight modules. You can design you own catcher and order the amount of modules you need, or you tell us the size your catcher should have and we will suggest a configuration. The modules can be connected side by side or back to back, they can not be connected side to back.

Customizable storage systems aren’t really a new thing, but Loadbearing’s MShelving does have a certain appeal with its industrial frame with pick-your-own door color options. With somewhat reasonable price points, it could fit your storage needs quite well.

MShelving… allows you to create your own look from a wide range of interchangeable colored steel and wood veneer sliding doors and half- and full- height drawers. MShelving was designed by Mathias Frei of Zurich, and is produced in Switzerland and Italy. It combines a sturdy, fairly industrial-feeling steel shelving system base with a refined, simple and attractive sliding door system… The shelving unit itself is made of galvanized steel. The wood finish doors are wood veneers (all from sustainable forests) on a particle board base with a galvanized steel handle edge, and the color and metallic finish doors are made of powder-coated steel.

An alternative to the usual Ikea wardrobe, it’s not exactly a cheap storage solution, especially considering the amount of actual storage you actually get for it, but it’s an interesting storage option for those of you for whom money is no object.

This modular bookcase can be arranged in several different ways to fit your space. From the description it seems as if two of the elements are included in the price, yet take note that it looks like three are shown in the above picture. Four would be needed to create a complete column or circular shape.

I love this so much it hurts my feelings. It’s still currently in prototype, but frankly I’ve been bored with all the available options for shelving so I wanted to post something a little more exciting. From a Tokyo based design firm called MicroWorks–the designers discovered that books tilted at a 4 degree angle don’t accumulate dust as quickly as books which are stored flat. Whatever the reason for the tilt, I love it.

Seeing as I’m mightily impressed by this shelving unit, you might be too. Morgan of The Brick House built this unit out of plumbing pipe and fittings for about $200 (and apparently a lot of frustration). It sure looks good, and if you’re brave enough to embark on this DIY project, check out the supply list here.

Apologies for the crazy price linkage on this shelf system, but it took a while to figure out who had the correct listings and for the best price, and apparently there’s only one U.S. retailer (is that right?). The randomness possible with stacking blocks just can’t be beat sometimes…you can buy however many you need and organize them however you want. I like the mixing of pine and white as well, with green clips(!).

This is a little similar to the OTO100 Storage System obviously, but it’s different in that it’s made from paperboard rolls and is velcro’d together. Anybody see a DIY project waiting to happen? Just have to find some paperboard rolls…

Hmm, sawhorse legs on a storage console…good or bad? I’m leaning towards good, but I’d like it a little more if there were other leg options to choose from.

I post this with considerable trepidation. On one hand, having a huge trunk to stuff all sorts of work papers and items plus a computer would be exceptionally nice in that you could close it all off and see a nice looking old trunk instead of a messy workspace. On the other hand it is absolutely huge and might look like an elephant in the corner, plus some people might assume you have a Real Doll in there, and that would not do your reputation any good whatsoever. So, it’s up to you to decide whether the risk is worth the advantage, but don’t say I didn’t warn you. (Also, if you’re into the antique steamer trunk thing, there’s a sizable collection of them (media stands, dressers, etc.) to check out at Restoration Hardware).

Maybe we’ll all become immune to this shelving unit’s charm after walking past it a bajillion times, but presently the staggered supports and overall look have me slightly swooning. $229, folks, $229…such a reasonable price for a pretty sizable bookshelf.
