Now, here’s an interesting take on a shelving kit. Notice how the legs thicken towards the bottom? That enables “precisely machined plastic collars” on each of the five shelves to fit at certain spots, thus creating shelving space. Those legs are produced in collaborations with RJH Custom Pool Cues, as those of you who play pool might have noticed. No other hardware is needed, just slide the shelves over the four legs.

What’s the deal with this jumble of junctions and thumb screws? It’s the Alex Building System, and you’re going to have a lot of fun if you like putting things together with your own two hands, no tools needed. Various junctions can be tightened with the thumb screws onto wood sections to create anything your brain can dream up; coffee tables, consoles, side tables, shelving systems, etc. And, man, talk about the clean design- can you believe those joints look as nice as they do? It won’t be cheap no matter what size item you plan to build, but the possibilities are endless, so you may alter it as your needs change, and that makes the system worth every penny.

Don’t be put off by the ‘Fungi’ word in the title of these Gridy Fungi Shelves, it serves merely as a reminder that they were inspired by the shelf fungus that grows horizontally out of trees in the woods and forests. Three different sizes will fit wherever you might need them. Think of a few in the hallway for display of certain special keepsakes, a couple in the kitchen for spices and small recipe books, or just one in the bedroom for your reading stack beside the bed.

What’s that price tag doing on such a modern media console? And it can be mounted directly on the wall without the base, thus bringing the price down to $999? Hmm, perhaps we need to consider where it could live in our own homes. I especially like the option of the wall mount version, as it could be hung at any height and do the job of an entryway console or dining area buffet.

If you find you move quite a bit, this shelving system might be something to consider. The BrickBox is an individual stacking module that can be assembled in various ways to create a larger bookcase. It’s made of white laminated plywood, and, as you might expect, is easy to assemble from a flat pack. Have several small BrickBoxes for a smaller, lower bookcase, or stock up on several large Brickboxes for a more serious storage statement. No screws are necessary- small nylon plugs keep the boxes in place. And, when it comes time to pick up and move, you already have all your books and such in boxes- handy!

Nice! This petite shelf system uses powerful neodymium magnets to hold each shelf to a metal panel. That means you can move the shelves around as you wish, and use them to hold up papers, photos, etc. so you won’t misplace anything (ever). Every once in a while I’ll have to plug in the name of a piece into BLTD’s search bar to see if we’ve posted it before, which is no surprise, really, considering there’s over 8,000 posts and my memory refuses to remember them all. Such was the case with this Babel Shelving System. It’s modular, so you can place the block modules in the layout you desire, as long as you maintain a staggered design to keep it structurally sound. I smell a DIY opportunity for someone crafty with a table saw and a whole lot of patience (and math skills). However, if you avoid DIY projects like the plague, luckily the pricing isn’t so prohibitive that you can’t save up for it (eventually).

Primary colors might not be your thing, but you might want to reconsider when it comes to buying the next storage piece for your home, as Moooi has some new color options for their Paper Collection by Studio Job. If you’re not familiar with the line, each piece is made entirely of paper, cardboard and papier-mâché, and possesses enough classic lines to regally nod at the past while thumbing its nose (so to speak) at it as well with its uncharacteristic materials and colors.
