If you’re a minimalist, you may need help picking your jaw up off the floor, then a tissue to wipe your tears. The Supermetal Table by Chiara Ferrari is impressive- it features a very thin single-sheet top with squared-off metal legs (placed flush to the tabletop, of course). It’s just what any super-minimalist wants, except for the tiny little part of it only being available for delivery in Southern California.

Need a dining table or work surface? You can’t go wrong with one of the three Snaregade* Tables by Norm.Architects, as it has such slender supports for its oak veneer tabletop. That leaves plenty of room for legs, and, with such a spare and elegant look, it would be right at home in the dining room or office. The Snaregade was originally a one-off design for Bjarne Hansen, Menu’s creative director and founder, but Norm.Architects were so fond of it they made a few for their own studio. Remember the Walnut and Marble Storage Cube from Ike Bahadourian’s 2131 collection we posted a few days ago? There’s also this walnut Extending Table that extends from 5′ to 10′ long. Doubling your seating capacity without messing with additional leaves or tables sounds like a great idea, doesn’t it? How about a little hardware with your dining table? An oxidized iron X-base provides support for solid (sustainable) mango wood planks while smaller touches of polished aluminum adds a hint of industrial gleam. Inspired by old Swedish tapetserarbords (wallpaper tables), the designer Jonas Wahlström intends for this table to be just as suitable in the dining room as in an office or workspace.

The Adap.Table Legs follow along the same lines as the Floyd Leg; by simply tightening the legs onto a flat surface, you create a table. Two versions are available from Adap.Table (the Delta or the Ribbon) and a contribution of $130 gets you a set of two (add hinges for a fold down table) or $230 gets you a set of four.

Folding tables, ick. They never look good and they’re so very tacky… right? Wrong! There’s one folding table that actually looks decent, and sort of cheery, thanks to its bright green color. Designed by Benjamin Luddy and Makoto Mizutani, this Steel Folding Table has detachable legs and may be used wherever you need an extra impromptu surface- indoors or outside. You can even hang it on the wall for storage and double the function by using it as a message center with magnets and dry erase markers. Smart.

Why are you seeing the image of an artfully messy room? Because of the table, of course. As you can probably tell with your keen eyes, the Keep Table from Muuto is made from pieces of wood held together with metal bands. You’ll be happy to hear that those pieces of are leftovers from wood furniture production, and because of this, each table is unique. Winner of Muuto’s 2009 Talent Award, the Keep Table was a senior project of design students Petter Thörne and Anders Johnsson from Konstfack School of Design in Stockholm.

While not new, the Two Tops Table by Marcel Wanders recently found pride of place on my list of dining table options for a young family. The ‘Two Tops’ has an option to use laptops or coloring books at each end, thanks to a hinged end section that flips up to access the space. To hide the workspace, flip down the lid and you have a clean tabletop for dinnertime, no clearing necessary. It’s a clever solution to make the dining area tidy each evening and allows a kitchen or dining room to serve several functions.

Remember the promise to feature a few more dining tables? Here’s one that doesn’t hide its extension feature.
