Cross Round Table Glass

Today’s the last day of DWR’s Anniversary Sale. If you’ve had your eye on anything, it’s a good time to buy with the free shipping and discounts.

A sculpturally unique and compact dining solution, the Cross Round Table (2007) features an asymmetrical solid oak base that’s constructed of two interlocking pieces. Designed by Matthew Hilton, the Round Table possesses the same modernist balance of form and function as his other pieces like the Profile Chair and Cross Credenza. The pedestal base allows for unimpeded leg room and supports a .5″-thick tempered glass top. Where the top and base meet, four neoprene pads keep the glass from being scratched. The Cross Round Table seats four comfortably.

Woven Wire Stool

This little stool will add some subtle texture and a nice metallic sheen to a furniture grouping.

Wire can be stronger when woven together than you can imagine! Another way to keep wire from the landfill, and to refashion it in a stylish piece of furniture – a stool or a side table for books. A unique accent that will last a lifetime. Indoor use suggested. This product is made using metal that is kept out of landfills. Each piece is unique.

Herman Miller® Enchord™ Desk

This is an excellent example of a desk that will keep you on top of clutter, namely because there’s no place to stash it except in neat piles along the lower shelf. If that seems entirely implausible, the handy mobile cabinet keeps the clean lines yet has ample storage for your odds and ends.

Modern Farm Table

I have had a design crush on the Big Sur dining table from Crate and Barrel ($1399) for over a year now, but I think the West Elm modern farm table ($599) is a good contender and is a lot cheaper.

Now, buyer beware, the one from Crate and Barrel is made of solid wood and the one from West Elm is just veneer, and I’ve heard that the West Elm veneers are notoriously thin, so if you have kids and pets and expect the table to hold up to some serious wear and tear, I recommend the Crate and Barrel one. If you live alone then the one from West Elm may do just fine.

Globus

This may be the craziest thing I’ve seen all day. But, if you like the idea of working in a mobile pod then the Globus is for you.

Globus is a compact personal mobile workstation that offers flexibility thanks to it’s rotating chair, the pull out table top and castors. You can work with or without a notebook. You can work where ever you want. You move your flexible workstation to a place where you want to be, open it and work. Flexible and functional, Globus can be used in the office but also at home. A sophisticated work station demonstrating a truly appealing example of innovative design.

Muji Aluminum Table

Remember how in the 90’s design was considered ‘modern’ if it was made out of stainless steel or some other metal? It was almost like a designer’s shortcut. It left a bad taste in my mouth related to anything masquerading as modern when it was just a regular product cast in metal. This, however, is certainly not the case with this lovely aluminum table from Muji. I love the subtle transition from the top of the table down to the slim line legs.

Muji, how do I love thee? Let me count the ways…

Branch Table

This is one lovely table so I suppose it should come as no surprise that it hits right over the 3 grand mark.

Designed by Maurizio Marconato and Terry Zappa, the Branch Table (2007) has a hand-cut, hand-joined solid wood base that was inspired by Charles Paul Landon’s 1799 painting “Daedalus and Icarus.” In the painting, the shape of the mythological characters’ wings is both graceful and bold, which the designers captured in the shape of each end of their table. The glass top sits on the tips of these “wings” and the result is a sculpture of shapes, formed by positive and negative spaces. These angles, while at first glance decorative, also serve a functional purpose by maximizing legroom for friends and family gathering around the table. Whether seen from the side or above, the Branch Table has an inherent lightness that challenges the assumption that a solid wood base has to be bulky and overscaled.

Sawhorse Worktable

Compared to the Mason Glass Top Desk priced at $1,150.00 with similar trestle table legs, this worktable is quite a steal. (The $1,150.00 table has much chunkier legs, but if you’re on a budget, skinnier legs do the job just fine.)

“Modern industry. An expansive glass tabletop rests upon two sleek steel-plated legs with a black nickel finish. Simple assembly.”

Harvest Table

The room settings above perfectly illustrate how combining two distinct styles can add interest and character to a home…I love the Shaker style table paired with the more industrial Navy Side Chair or the mid century Saarinen Tulip™ Stools.

This table has a sturdy and symmetrical form that’s defined by its functionality. Simple and austere, two drop leaves increase or decrease the footprint depending on immediate needs. Wooden pegs fold out to support the leaves when they’re raised and act as stoppers when the leaves are folded down. The modern maxim that form follows function was phrased by the Shakers as, “beauty rests on utility,” which is an expression found in Shaker literature. This reference to beauty does not imply ornament or decoration, both of which the Shakers avoided for fear of encouraging the sin of pride. Rather, this beauty is inherent to a useful object, and “that which has in itself the highest use possesses the greatest beauty.”

Convertible Compact Desk

This is a perfect solution for anyone short on space- you simply slide the top panel out when you need more work surface.

What looks like a 30″ cabinet converts to a 55″ full-size desk, making it a clever solution for studio apartments and multipurpose rooms. A quick slide of its top panel reveals hard-working amenities. When open, the top of the cabinet reveals generous storage space for a laptop, plus cubbies with removable dividers to stow paper clips, rubber bands and other smalls. Cord cutouts in back let you charge iPods, laptop and cell phones. Below are a storage drawer and one letter- and legal-size file.

Phillipe Dining Table

The emphasized spool legs of this dining table could read more modern than traditional depending on the chairs placed with it. Also, sometimes mixing styles can make your space look a lot more interesting, so keep your mind open to items outside your normal comfort zone.

Ergo Drink Table (Lobster)

If you’re needing a small side table for cheap, here’s your solution.

A moment of inspired homage to Florence Knoll, doyenne of modern design. Small neo-classic table perches a drink chairside, alarm clock bedside. Brite lobster red wood composite top with matching powdercoated metal base. Four star feet pose in fun scale. And this price is not a misprint. Also in white.
