An expansive tabletop rests securely on two sturdy legs. Single drawer. Tabletop and legs of wood construction with durable sungkai wood veneer. Variations in richly textured, prominently grained sungkai make each piece unique. Simple assembly.

Kid’s Rug by Arzu Firuz

I’m not quite sure what this is made from (wool? felt? maybe even wood??), but it’s pretty cute for the price. And call me crazy, but I wouldn’t say it’s just for kids…if it had ABCs or something then yeah, I’d say for kids, but adults can like animal silhouettes too.

Blue. Measures approximately 38.5″.

Domestic Art: Curated Interiors

This book sure has its fair share of interesting homes. Detailed photographs of layered interiors might just bring out your collector’s side and have you itching to display all sorts of strange paraphernalia (in the most elegant sort of way, of course). Even if you tend towards the minimal, the rich rooms might inspire you to add a different sort of detail here and there.

The selected houses in this book were pulled from the pages of PaperCity, from the years 2000 to 2008. Roughly a decade of design alchemy and clinking highballs. The editors of this book foraged for both the musty and gutsy and the soaring and sensual, from a 500-square-foot bedsit to a mid-century organic architectural wonder thirty seven glorious projects, from follies to disciplined mansions, from Dominique and John de Menil s International-style house with its interior by the great couturier Charles James to artist Christian Eckart’s abandoned 1940s warehouses polished to gleaming architectural wonder.

Recycled Tube Light

What happens to all those fluorescent tube lights? Thankfully, some of them end up in the hands of Castor Design.

The Recycled Tube Light is made from burnt-out fluorescent tubes and is lit using centrally placed incandescent bulbs. The fluorescent bulbs have been reclaimed from architecturally significant buildings in Canada, such as the TD Tower designed by Mies van der Rohe, Toronto’s Old City Hall and University of Toronto.

Ovopur’s Ceramic Water Filter

Uh, I might care about my water quality, but I think the price tag of this filter might be more at home in an office setting than my kitchen. That said, it looks pretty darn good for an updated (and improved) water cooler/filter.

Up to 11 liters of tap water is filtered and revitalized with the reusable, multilayer Aquacristal filter cartridge, which removes chemicals and organic pollutants. Water starts with an Activated Carbon layer, neutralizing taste and smell, it absorbs 99% of pharmaceutical residues, phenols, and other nasty elements. Next is the at a layer of KD455, a powder of copper alloy and ultra pure zinc to neutralize 99% of the chlorine, lead and other heavy metals, while fighting buildup of bacteria, algae. Through the third layer water passes through Quartz Crystal, an energy amplifier and conductor that is used to remove any lingering impurities. Lastly, the Microporous Bioceramics absorbs any remaining chemical and organic residues, while active MBs soften and revitalize water by reducing molecules—which ensures maximum hydration for the end user, helps stimulate blood circulation and detox while preventing oxidation. The Results? Delicious! And the ceramic vessel looks irresistible, too.

Holds up to 3 gallons of purified water.
Size: 11″ w x 14″ d x 26″ t

Paris Loft (plywood)

More plywood? Yes, please. This loft is an excellent example of utilizing plywood as a finishing element. Also, Remodelista posted this kitchen a while back and linked to a video showing how the islands can be rearranged to fit the homeowner’s needs. It’s a great idea for making the most out of a smaller space. To see the video, go here.

Renovated by architects Karine Chartier and Thomas Corbasson (who trained in the studio of Jean Nouvel–last year’s Pritzker Award winner), the old industrial laboratory (check out the building’s original freight elevator below) is transformed by adding a heavy textual and uncanny element–plywood.
Plywood, a moisture-proof, marine-grade, very low formaldehyde-content pine, certified by the European sustainable forest practices agreement, becomes a strong, almost abnormal complement to what would normally be simply a white, industrial space. It’s hard to see but the plywood kitchen islands are mostly on locking wheels, which creates a flexible space that can mutate from a small cooking area to a larger gathering area. Combined with the other moveable furniture, plywood has stopped looking cheap, and starts looking high-end (or high-grade, maybe?) whether it just sits pretty or on wheels. – LoftLife Magazine

Tavares Chair

Wow, when I saw this at ICFF I thought it would be way more expensive than it is (because usually all super modern sleek chairs command a hefty price tag).

Developed by request of a landmark Lisbon restaurant bearing the same name, the Tavares chair is an object of thoughtful geometric lines, a “Shell” as a chair. Built in black steel, its forms reveal the the simplicity of an object that integrates with its surrounding architecture defining a common space identity.
