What do we have here? It looks like a modular shelving system, but it’s certainly unlike any you’ll find at a regular retailer. With a pair of brass plated rails, three solid walnut shelf elements, each “module” of the Present Modular Shelving will provide multiple storage functions to fit your needs. Some people are fortunate enough to have custom cabinetry perfectly fitted to their wardrobes, and some people have a mess of shoes at the bottom of their small closets. If you belong to the latter group, you might consider this shoe shelf, especially if you want something quick and easy (as in, no tools required). It hangs from the existing closet rod and can be adjusted to fit under shorter jackets and shirts or longer hanging items like dresses, winter coats and more.

Now, this is the way to show off your collection of books. Each of your precious volumes is displayed on its own horizontal shelf, allowing for an impressive array that becomes the focus of a room. 13 shelves may be arranged however you wish, and the unit requires only four screws to mount to the wall, though do make sure you fasten them securely to studs, otherwise you’ll have an unhappy mess of shelving and books on the floor.

There’s also three larger shelves that have protruding tabs that will be the perfect home for larger objects or tomes. If you have the money to spend, several of these side by side or one above the other would look fantastic filling a whole wall.

Don’t go thinking this is a static shelf- it’s made of modules that rotate around a central axis so that it can change according to your needs. Each module has a sharp curve at its inner end, so that when it’s flipped up/down, it acts as hook, and the top of the module could serve as a bookend, as shown in the photos below. One in a smaller entryway would work wonders, or combine several in a longer hallway for more storage. Cyclists: take note of the bicycle storage option (for low seats/handlebars).

The Bouroullec brothers bring yet another lovely and functional object for the home: the Corniche Shelves. Put a few in your entryway for keys and wallets, or perhaps one or two in the bathroom for storing jars of cotton balls and q-tips. Sure, a simple shelf sounds okay, but then you see the frame sort of floats away from the wall, and that means extra dimension. Not an extra dimension (don’t get too excited), just extra dimension, as in, a pinch of optical illusion when you walk by. The robots and bus make it look perfect for a kid’s room, but the collectors among us know an extra shelf or two means room to show off those few valuables/momentos that are worth keeping.

Interesting. This bookshelf is basically one steel tube with one central support, a little different from the usual two-bracket-one-flat-shelf idea, isn’t it? It’s stated that no tools are needed, but seeing as there screws in the picture, you might want to have a Phillips screwdriver handy.

Do you need some sculptural storage? Of course you do, who doesn’t? Debra Folz brings us these Askew shelves, which are, you guessed it, set askew to the wall. The drawer fronts are nicely crafted as to be almost invisible, and while it would cost quite a few pretty pennies to install several on a wall, it would look fantastic. Maybe settling for just one in an entry way (or as a beside table?) is a nice compromise.

Flat packable shelving usually brings to mind heavy boxes and a fair amount of cursing during assembly. In contrast, this low shelving system by Calen Knauf has no heavy wood composite pieces and looks pretty simple to put together.
